Wisconsin Black Media Association will honor JoAnne Williams

The Wisconsin Black Media Association will honor retired FOX 6 education reporter JoAnne Williams Jan. 8th during a Holiday Party at the Zen den inside the InterContinental Hotel, 139 E. Kilbourn Ave.

Williams spent 29 years at WITI-TV (formerly Channel 6, then TV6 and later FOX 6), as an anchor and reporter. When she retired from FOX she was the education reporter and midday news anchor.

She is arguably one of Milwaukee's most recognizable and trusted faces in broadcast since she started in the business in 1971. Williams' career in Milwaukee TV news is full of history and remarkable contributions.

In November she became Cardinal Stritch University's new vice president for public relations and marketing.

Williams is past president of the Milwaukee Press Club and the Wisconsin Black Media Association. She also served as regional director of the National Association of Black Journalists.

“This is a time for us to come together to honor one of Milwaukee’s black broadcast pioneers,” said James E. Causey, WBMA president.

“If you grew up in Milwaukee, you grew up watching JoAnne Williams broadcasting local news. She was and will always be a true professional,” Causey said.

The Wisconsin Black Media Association is the local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, representing the nation's largest organization of journalists of color.

The event is scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. It’s free and open to the public.
